How it works

When someone thinks about the most significant quality in a family member, a friend, or a person he or she meets new, the term ‘trust’ immediately comes to mind. It is something that one cannot ignore. It has always been there in human nature. There are different variations within the trust for example naked trust or dry trust etc. Therefore, Trust is a complex fragile term involved in a person’s day-to-day life, it plays an important role in forming or creating rifts in relationships and is present in everyone’s life from birth till death even if he/she is not aware of it. A group of lab partners was having a heated argument among themselves one hour before their lab report was due. They had divided their work by forming two teams. Unfortunately, both the groups came up with different calculations. Tension and sweat had stormed everybody’s faces. In this case, Mike, a student is known for his genius thinking spoke up “Guys! Trust me, I’m sure my group did it right.” “Trust!” John cried out with a sense of frustration and cation in his voice. Everyone around the table also pounced on this pitiful world, while poor disappointed Mike retreated back to his original position on his stool. Trust is an integral part of everybody’s day-to-day life.

Overall, trust is a maze, which is hard to solve, a barrier in life, and an extraordinary feeling which sometimes leaves all of us vulnerable in front of those ignorant and inhumane turncoats. Trust can be found in ordinary things, for example, a pet relying on its owner for food and care, or it can also be seen in complex and many serious issues, for example, two cops watching each other back at work. Both of them blindly trusting each other with their lives. Just imagine the level of trust between them. Life is precious to everyone and giving it in the hands of another person is certainly a very daring thing to do. Every friendship is built upon trust. Good friends will never let other friends do something wrong or stab them in the back in any form throughout their lives and will expect others to do the same for them. If someone knows that one can handle responsibility and is capable of doing the right thing even if they are not asked, he will for sure extend a hand of support. A friendship where trust is considered sacred is always a fruitful one and lasts till the last breath of those involved. However, this is not always the case. When friends take each other’s trust them lightly, that relationship is bound to fail. This is summed up by Steig Larrson’s famous saying in his work “Friendship- my definition- is built on two things. Respect and trust. Both elements have to be there. And it has to be mutual. You can have respect for someone, but if you don’t have trust, the friendship will crumble.” ( The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo). Let’s dive into a real-world example that my uncle Adolf Hitler disclosed while I was interviewing him. (Interview with uncle Adolf Hitler). “So uncle, you are sixty-six years old now, have you ever encountered a friendship where you got along pretty well initially and then the guy broke your trust?” I asked him closely. “Yea, when I was in my forties. I wanted to buy stocks in the stock market. I had like $70000 sum of money. One of my old school friends offered me to invest in his business, well that devil turned out to be a traitor. He stole my money and shook me off with a reason that the business market went into loss and my cash went down the drain!” There was a pain in his eyes. “I am so sorry for your loss” I replied with sympathy. “Listen here young chap, the world is pretty dark. Ya never know what’s out there.

Some people are wolves inside with sheep costumes on top to deceive you”. He replied with a cold face. Those right there, are words of wisdom with the same lesson, chose wisely who you trust! Trust has always been an important part of everyone’s life. It is there whether they are aware of it or not. When we are born, we know our parents will shower their love and affection upon us. In our teenage, we all expect our family and friends alike to guide us on the straight path and support us in making correct decisions. During our high school and college years, we trust our teachers to grade us accurately and polish us in the best possible way for the real world. All of us expect our life partners to love and take care of us throughout our adult years. We rely on our children and relatives to take our care once we are old. Even on the day we die, we know that our relatives, family, and friends will bid us farewell at our funeral into the afterworld. We all trust everyone we know to pray for our forgiveness from God after our death. Although our destination in the afterlife depends upon our deeds in this world, we all sometimes expect and trust God to grant us heaven. Therefore, trust follows us everywhere throughout our lives. It is the moral foundation of every relationship. It is like constructing a building. As you cannot build something without a firm foundation. Similarly, you cannot build a relationship without trust. Always trust someone who is special to you. A blind trust may lead you to failure. This the reality and we all have to live with it.

How Is Trust Important In A Relationship and How Important Is It?

Trust is one of the most important things anyone can have in a relationship because trust is what helps to make the foundation of a relationship. Without trust there is no relationship at all because everything you do and make out of the relationship will be a lie and will be based on lies. I know from experience how damaging not trusting someone that has done nothing wrong can be to a relationship.

I’m not one that trusts easily or quickly for that matter because I’ve conditioned myself not to because of being hurt so many times in the past by men that have taken advantage of my trust. There are always going to be those type of people in the world that use trust to get what they want out of a relationship and they’re not good people. They’re the type of people that should be avoided if you don’t want to end up hurt and alone. But there are also those people out there that will do everything they can to make sure that they do nothing to break your trust and will work hard every day to show you that they’re worthy of your trust. They are the type of people that end up having long and happy relationships whether they’re friendships, intimate relationships, or even job relationships. For me those are the type of people that are good to have around you but they’re very hard to find in this generation.

This generation has been taught that trust is not important in any kind of relationship, that it is just a small factor of the relationships. Well that could not be farther from the truth; trust is a very big part of any relationship that you are in. I know for a fact that not having trust in a relationship will destroy the relationship before it even gets started. Let’s discuss the effects of lacking trust in an intimate relationship first then we can move on to other relationships that trust is important in.

In an intimate relationship, in order for the relationship to continue to grow and become stronger you have to have that trust there or you will never get anywhere, you will always be wondering “what if” and you will drive yourself insane worrying about everything. All of us have our times where we wonder about those “what ifs” but we can’t let them drive us or run our relationship because then we are not trusting that the person we are with is telling the truth. Trust can take a relationship to new and better heights if it is not abused by either party. There has got to be trust from both sides or it is pointless for one side to trust and the other to be mistrusting, that gets you nowhere in the relationship. Having trust allows you to not only let the other person grow as a person with you but also allows yourself to grow and become a better person with them. If you are with someone and you truly feel that they have done nothing wrong then you have no reason in the world not to trust them. Now yes there are times in a relationship where something is done that loses your trust with that person but you have to step back and really look at the situation and judge for yourself whether it is worth allow them to work to gain that trust back. Take it from someone that knows having someone lose your trust is not an easy ordeal especially if it ends up hurting you pretty badly. But if you feel that the person can learn from the mistake and can earn your trust back then there is no reason in the world that you should not allow them to work to earn it back. But on the same token if you suddenly feel that there is no way that they can earn that trust back then there is no reason to stay in the relationship because you will only make yourself and that person miserable by constantly questioning everything they do or say and no one wants to live like that, its not fair to anyone involved.

Trust is not the most important factor in an intimate relationship but it is one of them. Others are honesty, loyalty, love is important as well, and patience. Without all of that a relationship will never last or grow. Having trust can make a relationships future very bright and promising as long as it come from both sides. A one sided untrusting relationship is just as destructive as having no trust on either side. Having an untrusting person for your partner makes you miserable and frustrated at times because you begin to wonder if they will ever trust you and even sometimes question if it is the relationship for you.

But here is something that is extremely important when it comes to trusting someone in a relationship; you have to trust yourself first. If you can’t trust yourself then there is no way that you can trust anyone else because if you doubt yourself then you will always doubt those around you as well. And you will never be able to find a good, loving relationship. Trust in yourself before you try to trust in someone else. And don’t let past bad experiences with trust run your current relationships but that is a topic for another time. Let’s stick to the topic at hand for now. Sometimes it can be very hard to trust in yourself because you are the one that can trick yourself the easiest into thinking something is different than it really is. When it comes to intimate relationships always trust in your heart before trusting your head or your gut it will get you farther than you can ever imagine. Sometimes listening to your heart can be difficult especially if your heart and your head are telling you two very different things but your heart will always be true to you where your head can very easily twist things to make them seem either better or worse than they really are. That is another thing that I have a very hard time doing myself but with the help of someone very special I am learning how to do it. And sometimes having that special someone to help you makes a big difference too.

Having someone that trusts you can make you feel like you can do anything in the world and can make you feel safer than you have ever felt any time before in your life. They help you to build yourself up and to be a better person not for anyone else but yourself. Trusting in someone that is always positive and helps you to be the same way is not only good on the relationship but also it is good for your own health. You will live longer if you are happy and not worrying about what they are doing and who they are with.

Our society now days has put trust as something that is self destructive and not necessary because so many people abuse trust and therefore end up hurting themselves as well as people around them. But trust is important in every aspect of a person’s life. Not just in intimate relationships.

Friendships is probably one of the hardest aspects where is trust is necessary because friends so easily break that trust and don’t care. Friends come and go and sometimes what they do stays with you for a long time even forever and if you let it affect you then you can never have good friendships in the future because you always go back to what this friend did or what that friend did and the people trying to make friends with you now pay for what the others have done. Trusting someone that you are not intimate with is very hard especially if you are in an intimate relationship and the friend is the same sex as you because if you are not a trusting person then you start to worry that this friend is going to try to push themselves in between you and your partner but then that is where you have to trust your partner to never let that happen and to tell you if it does even start to happen. Good friends are very hard to find any more because so many people don’t see friendships as important but they really are because you never know when that good friend of yours might be the person that you are supposed to spend the rest of your life with.

It is very hard to put yourself out there and trust someone that you really don’t know but you can never get to know them if you never trust them and let them come into your life and be part of it. If it turns out that they are one that breaks trust then simply chalk them up to yet another lesson and another memory to add to your collection of good or bad memories, don’t dwell on it. Move on and make more friends that will be trustworthy to you.

There are also lifestyles out there that trust is extremely important. I only know of one intimately and that is the one that I live personally; the BDSM lifestyle. Living the BDSM lifestyle can be dangerous if you don’t have trust between you and your partner. Trusting your partner not to hurt you or to do something that could cause you bodily or permanent harm is important because then you are more likely to have fun and get pleasure from the experience but at the same time your partner has to trust you to tell them if they do something that you are uncomfortable with or that hurts you too much. If you don’t have the trust then that is when people end up very seriously hurt mentally, physically, and emotionally. They have to trust you to tell them your limits if you have any but you also have to trust in them that they will honor those limits and not intentionally do bodily or permanent harm to you.

Trust is a very rare thing to find in this life now but when you do find it and you are able to give it in return your life is so much better and more fulfilling for everyone involved. You are a happier person because you are comfortable being able to let down your guard and allow yourself to be vulnerable with people in your life whether they are family, friends, co-workers, people your intimate with, or even people that you share a lifestyle with. At the same time the people in your life can look at you and see someone that is confident not only in themselves but also in their life and where it is going. Trusting people can hurt sometimes because they betray you but you learn from the situation and move on to the next adventure in your life by not letting one bad person or experience bring you down and turn you into a cold person that people actually run from because you don’t know how or don’t want to trust other people. No, trusting is not always easy especially if you are allowing yourself to trust someone that has hurt you in the past but if you truly feel in your heart that trusting this person to gain what trust that have is worth it then there should be no reason that is should be so difficult that you cannot progress through it together. Just don’t let small bumps in the road throw you back to not trusting and being cold. Simply keep moving forward and you will have a wonderfully fulfilling life that will be filled with good people that care and are trustworthy.
